Dr. Jessica Tanner
Psychologist
I work with adult and older adult clientele to create a plan for intervention that is both evidence-based and client-centered. My approach to client care is to provide a respectful and non-judgmental environment.
I value strong therapeutic relationships and through collaboration with my clients, I help them create attainable goals that capitalize on individuals’ strengths and values.
My primary orientation is from a cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) lens and I utilize other third wave CBT-based approaches to provide treatment that is flexible to client needs, including mindfulness, acceptance commitment therapy, cognitive processing therapy, and dialectical behaviour skills.

Clinical Experience
My predoctoral residency in clinical psychology was through the Northern Ontario Psychology Internship Consortium (NORPIC) in Thunder Bay ON. During my residency I had the opportunity to work with adults and older adults in both inpatient and outpatient settings. My work consisted of individual and group therapy, psychodiagnostic and cognitive assessment, and psychological consultation across a wide array of mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, trauma-related disorders, personality disorders, psychosis, substance use, stress, caregiver burnout, and adjustment to chronic health conditions.
In addition, I completed a minor rotation in a bariatric care setting conducting psychosocial intake assessments and follow-up, as well as post-surgery psychological follow-up. In various other clinical practica I have worked with First Nations and rural/remote populations, adult and older adult mental health inpatient rehabilitation, and within a forensic inpatient unit.
Throughout my residency and clinical experiences, I have enjoyed collaborating with other professionals including family physicians, nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, social workers, occupational therapists, and counsellors. I believe that working together ensures the best care possible.
I am motivated within my work by my compassion for people and I take time to understand client concerns. Using evidence-based treatment approaches I tailor treatment plans to my clients’ needs and build upon their strengths. I have a good sense of humour and I use this to help put clients at ease and as a therapeutic tool when appropriate.
